(no subject)

Today I just feel like it's all entirely too much.

Current workplace had a major connection outage on the weekend, so today has been checking up on missing files, following up with the relevant department, and trying to keep up with all the documentation that's needed to fix things. (Can't just fix it, need to document it along the way!)

Former workplace, where I was doing 'holiday check-ins' for the woman who usually supports them, suddenly found a number of their bank files "not working". Once again, the dreaded term "not working" strikes, and more detail is needed.

Complications are that the remote connection that I used to use to connect failed a number of weeks ago, and for some reason entirely unrelated to this belief that everyone needs to go back to the office, they haven't bothered to try to fix it...

Cue me talking on the phone to a group, trying to walk my brain through the correct terms and screens, and not to do my thinking 'out loud' per se.

We think we solved that problem at least. But UGH.

Now it's back to working out what's been sent and what hasn't. OOF.

--

Played for Team 1 in Grade A yesterday.

We lost, but it was a good game. It was the top team (out of about six) and we were fourth place - and we got a goal in the first fifteen minutes, then held that until the third quarter. And then - ugh - in the last thirty seconds, they got another goal... That was a bit of a downer.

My glutes and quads were kind of okay last night, but then after I went and saw the physio this morning, they were really sore.

Oh wait. Painkillers. Should take a couple of those. (eeediot)

I really do not want to play in A-grade next year. And I will put that down, quite firmly. My hips and feet just can't take it, and I do want to be able to pronate for another thirty to forty years (assuming I live that long).

Supposed to go to a permaculture meeting tonight, and I really want to, but I am just not coping with today...

MCU meme thing-y

Hey! A wild meme that I can distract myself with while I pretend that I'm not worried as I wait for the vet to call me to pick Freya up. She's in getting two teeth pulled because her life long endeavour of 'everything is food if you try hard and believe in yourself' has finally caught up with her. It's not major surgery, but is under anaesthetic, and she's an older pup now...

Anyway.

What parts of the MCU have I watched )

The funny thing is, everyone I've seen post this has had roughly the same arc of having been super into the early MCU and then gradually falling off. Whereas my arc is more like aggressive disinterest in the early movies shading into outright dislike of the OG Avengers, a brief period of, like, Ragnarok, Black Panther, Captain Marvel that I actually really dug, that eventually turned into 'It's free on Disney+' ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Murder in the Trembling Lands (Ben January #21)

Working on belatedly writing up some books I've read lately.

A new Ben January book came out in July, and I had tremendous fun with it! This is one of the books in the series where Hambly goes Full Pulp with the plot, and she is delightful at it - buried treasure, pirates, abandoned houses crumbling in the swamp, identity shenanigans, long-lost relatives ...

tax return

Do I do it now, in the midst of everything preparatory before going away?

Or do I do it when I get back, in the midst of everything aftermath when I get home?

It's usually a tax return rather than having to pay tax, my income is taxed very highly, and there was a fair chunk of time I didn't work in 2023-2024.

ehhh. Gonna do it when I get back.

I have so many other things to do before I leave right in the middle of the 'everything is waking up and GROWING' season...

Not to mention getting my quilts in for the quilt show. Still haven't quilted one, although I've at least done the backing.

I did make a cake and got friends to eat it. it was kind of birthday cake - but more of a gift for me to make, from red velvet cake to ermine buttercream icing, and for me to decorate (rather awkwardly, imo). But it was delicious.

Just Murderbot things

Check out this person's adorable manga-style art illustrating scenes from the first three Murderbot books. I love their art style!

I was thinking about how the adaptation for the next season might go.

It's been a while since I've done one of these, so my apologies if it's not quite as adequate as I'd like.

ficathons

17th August - Just Married

My requestor has left me no prompts, which is sometimes worse than 'prompts I can't write'.

--

19th September - Ships Crossing

If I can get the sign up in before they close. My nominations have yet to be accepted. (In fairness, I only did them half an hour ago.)

--

I didn't sign up for the sedoretu exchange this year, I was deep in the weeds of life at the time and simply couldn't get the energy to sign up, let alone write a story.

it's 8:20pm and I just want to go to bed

But I should probably at least do a little bit of my tax return research.

I tried to throw a party this evening. Only a couple of days notice. I suspect that most people didn't see the invitation (fb sucks at timeliness), and the other half weren't able to come at such short notice.

Mind you, even with notice, a lot of people don't bestir themselves to come along.

--

It was a pretty good birthday. Nothing dire or terrible, at least. A day of work, and bible study at the end, and one of the bible study leaders made cupcakes, so I got a candle stuck in mine and everyone sang happy birthday.

I made a cake. Red velvet with ermine buttercream. I haven't really had a chance to eat it yet. I'm gearing up the courage to invite people around on Saturday night for post-dinner cake.

Anyway, I'm kind of tired, like I said. I've just calculated my mobile phone costs, because I use the phone for some work stuff, and other than that, I think it's health, any expenses (purchases of technology), and donations.

And then my accountant can tear her hair because I haven't put in the things she really wants and it will involve chasing me to get back to her...

Day off tomorrow - cousin's wedding. On a Friday. With family. And we're staying in the area (other side of Sydney) for the night, both the twins and I.

Have to speak to the neighbours about feeding the cats and checking the chooks.

Hm. Getting a bit of a headache. I wonder if it was the el cheapo dumplings we had for dinner...
